The silhouette of mens fashion including suiting has moved over the past three years, especially in the last twelve months. The silhouette is increasing in size, and while the high fashion side of the clothing industry is moving quickly and the commercial side of the industry follows, in Australia we move slowly.
However, it is necessary that we move!
Tailoring is enjoying a comeback, with an emphasis on structure and fit, that still feels contemporary. The fashionable younger generation are embracing structure and we can too.
While structure and formality is coming back, the shoulders of a jacket still remain unstructured, and the canvass lighter, usually in breathable fabrics, with natural stretch.
The lapels on single-breasted suits are either notched or peak. The peak lapels are bigger, especially on the double breasted suit, which is still continuing to make a re-surgence, especially in the younger, higher fashion area.
The silhouette is more relaxed, not overly tight, with higher-waisted pleated trousers, and a slightly wider leg and wider hem.
Classic navy suits with subtle overchecks are the staple, while most suiting brands are showing rich brown and coffee tones with texture.
There is also a strong direction in formal suiting for rich neutral earthy tones and English style tweeds, twills and plaid overchecks.
